Q What is a commentary?

A A commentary is an analysis of a student paper (either a partial solution or a final solution) by a faculty/practitioner.
The length and detail contained in a commentary is usually relative to the degree to which the student paper is complete.
Commentaries are meant to help the students better understand the modeling process.
Commentaries should ideally be written to the student(s). The hope is to guide the student(s) to improve the model presented.
Note that this is NOT a contest. We are not judging one solution or partial solution against another. We are trying to help students become better modelers. We expect that student reaction to the commentary may well be another attempt. We want to encourage this iteration - it is an important part of the modeling process. We hope you will encourage further work on the students part.
