Instructions on how to submit a Modeling Problem

You must be a registered and validated faculty/practitioner before you can submit a modeling problem.

1.) To start the process click on the "Submit a Problem" link.

2.) You will now be asked to sign in with your Username (E-mail Address) and Password.
This is the Username (E-mail Address) and Password you chose when registering.

 

 

3.) You should now be viewing the Submit a Problem form. Notice at the top your contact information should already be filled in for you.

 

 

4.) Type in your problem title.

 

 

5.) Select the grade level of your problem: high school or undergraduate.

 

 

6.) Select the difficulty of your problem: difficult or moderate.

 

 

7.) Select the real-world applications that apply to your problem from the list. If you cannot find one that best describes your problem from the list, type one in the Other Real-World Applications box

 

 

8.) Select the areas of mathematics that are relevant to your problem from the list

 

 

9.) IF your problem is short or is straight text you can enter your problem or a problem abstract in the the problem/abstract box.
If your problem is complex and includes artwork, graphs or equations, we recommend uploading your problem as a Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat file. You will be given the option to upload a file in step 11.

 

10.) You are given the option to submit a suggested approach or solution.
This will only be viewable by Faculty/Practitioners and is optional.

 

 

11.) You now have the option to upload a file to Mathmodels.org. (Examples of why you may upload a file include if your problem is complex and contains artwork, graphs or equations.)
MATHmodels.org currently only accepts papers in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. The file name must end with a .doc or .pdf (examples would be “sample.doc” or “sample.pdf”).

 

12.) Select whether you are available to mentor this problem. If you select yes you will receive all correspondence for this problem.
If you choose not to mentor this problem Mathmodels.org will assign one.

 

13.) The final step is to make sure that all your information is correct and click the “Click to Submit Information” button.
MATHmodels.org is a moderated portal. All submissions are reviewed before they are posted to the site. Once they are approved the contact person will receive an E-mail notifying them that their paper is now available on the site.
